I am completely in agreement with this proposal. In fact, I would go further myself, I would support an end to all sport shooting, although I realise that at this very moment this would not be possible.
The Government reply on this is:
“Defra intends to review the list of species, including woodcock, on Schedule 2 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 including the benefits of altering the close season.”
I very much hope this promise to review schedule 2 is realised. I have campaigned and spoken out on the treatment of animals and have opposed fox hunting and all forms of hunting and shooting for sport for many years, and I consider animals to be sentient.
