About me

Jeremy Corbyn
Jeremy Corbyn MP

First elected to parliament in 1983, I continue to enjoy representing Islington North, and served as Leader of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition from September 2015 to April 2020.

I get huge satisfaction from the work that I do locally, with the wonderful people of Islington North, in taking their needs to parliament in order to bring about solutions for a safer, fairer, and more equal world for all.

Mine is a fascinating political and personal journey and I spend a great deal of time and energy focussed on anti-racism, anti imperialism, LGBT+ rights, transport, the environment, opposition to nuclear weapons and military intervention, Trade Union policies, Miscarriages of Justice and more.  My international interests are widespread with particular attention to human rights, peace and justice.  I have travelled widely and continue to support those areas and communities affected by unresolved conflict including the Western Sahara, Chagos Islands, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Ireland, West Papua, the Dalit community, the Rohingya.

In parliament I served on the Social Security Committee (1992-2007), the London Regional Select Committee (2009-2010) and the Justice Committee (2011-2015).

I’ve travelled extensively in relation to my parliamentary work, including with All Party Parliamentary Groups, as well as the Interparliamentary Union, and I have witnessed different political systems and peoples and observed elections in some cases.

I was honoured to be awarded the 2017 Sean McBride Peace Prize and before that, (2013) the Gandhi International Peace Award.

I’m currently a member of the Parliamentary Assembly for the Council of Europe, the UK Socialist Campaign Group, and a regular participant at the United Nations Human Rights Council (Geneva), Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (Vice President), and Chagos Islands All Party Parliamentary Group (Honorary President), and a Vice president of the British Group Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

My commitments and priorities in Islington can be followed more closely via this website as well as my social media pages which are listed here.
